Why Just Tasbih Is Free — and Will Never Show Ads

Most free apps aren't free

When an app is free, someone else is usually paying the developer on your behalf — an advertiser, with your attention and your data as the currency. There's nothing hidden about this; it's just how the economics work.

For a game or a news feed, maybe that trade is fine. For an app you open specifically to remember Allah, we think it's not. So it's fair to ask: if Just Tasbih is free and shows no ads, what's the catch?

There is no catch, because there are no costs to recover

Just Tasbih has no servers. No database, no accounts, no infrastructure bill that grows with every user. Your counts live on your phone and in your own iCloud — storage you already own. An app built this way costs almost nothing to run, which means it doesn't need to earn anything back from you.

Why we chose free

The sunnah is to count dhikr on your fingertips — the Prophet ﷺ taught that they will bear witness on the Day of Judgement. Your hands already carry the best tasbih, and they cost nothing. Charging for a digital one never sat right with us. If you prefer counting on a screen — for the streaks, the stats, the walking dhikr — the app is here, whole and free, as a service to the ummah.

Why "Pro upgrades" in ad apps keep failing

Users of competing tasbih apps report upgrading to ad-free tiers and still seeing ads. This isn't necessarily malice — it's structure. When an app's codebase, analytics, and revenue reporting are all built around ad impressions, the ad-free path is an afterthought. A misconfigured flag, an SDK update, a new ad placement someone forgot to gate — and the upgraded user sees an ad again.

The only reliable way to never show ads is to never integrate ads. Just Tasbih has no ad SDK, no ad network account, no revenue to protect. You can't misconfigure a system that doesn't exist.

That's the whole business model: there isn't one. Which is how we think it should be for a worship app.
